You may see NO PETS posters around the Victoria Hospice in-patient unit or other buildings in the Royal Jubilee Hospital site. This is an infection control initiative of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and does not include compassionate visits that are usually permitted at Victoria Hospice. Visiting pets, of course, must be healthy, well-behaved, quiet and supervised so that they don't disturb others on our unit. Ask one of our staff members about the possibility of bringing in your family pet for short or longterm visits. You might also occasionally see pets on our unit wearing the bright turquoise kerchiefs of PATS, the Pacific Animal Therapy Society. These are specially screened animal visitors accompanied by PATS volunteers who are happy to visit patients or family members in their rooms if requested. |
